Hey hey, I’m Brittney, your go-to fitness, nutrition, and mindset coach here to bust a massive myth that might be holding you back from your weight-loss goals. If you’ve ever felt like you need to spend hours every day working out just to see results, let me set the record straight. Weight loss is not about how much time you spend; it’s about consistency, simplicity, and sustainability. Let’s dive into the truth and practical strategies that actually work for busy women like you!
The Myth: You Need Hours of Exercise to Lose Weight
Let’s talk about the big elephant in the room. For years, we’ve been fed this idea that the only way to lose weight is to grind it out in the gym for hours every single day. But here’s the truth: You don’t need marathon workouts to achieve results.
In fact, long workouts can actually work against you. They lead to burnout, frustration, and sometimes even overeating as a way to reward yourself for all that “effort.” If you’re a busy professional juggling work, family, and personal goals, you know those hours just aren’t realistic.
Instead, let’s shift the focus to what actually works—and no, it doesn’t involve sacrificing your precious time.
The Truth: Consistent, Quality Workouts Work Wonders
Weight loss isn’t about how long you work out—it’s about how you use your time. Short, efficient workouts can deliver incredible results when done consistently. Here’s why:
They are easier to stick with: A quick 20-minute workout is way less intimidating than a two-hour gym session.
They prioritize intensity over duration: High-quality movements pack a punch without exhausting your body.
They fit into your schedule: Whether it’s during your lunch break or before the kids wake up, you can make it happen.
Here’s a sample 20-minute workout you can try today:
5 minutes: Dynamic warm-up (jumping jacks, high knees, arm circles)
10 minutes: Circuit (squats, push-ups, mountain climbers—45 seconds of work 15 seconds rest--repeat 3x)
5 minutes: Cool down with stretching
Short workouts like this one not only help you lose weight but also boost energy and mental clarity—a win-win for any busy woman!
The Other Key to Weight Loss: Nutrition Over Gym Time
Let me drop another truth bomb: Weight loss starts in the kitchen, not the gym. You could work out for hours, but if your nutrition isn’t on point, you’ll be spinning your wheels.
Here are some actionable steps to simplify your nutrition:
Follow the 80/20 rule: Focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods 80% of the time, and allow yourself small indulgences 20% of the time. No guilt in fun weekends of hanging out with friends.
Prep your meals: Spend 20-90 minutes planning and prepping carb-smart meals for the week. Think lean protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs. Example: Grilled chicken (4oz), roasted veggies(1 cup), and quinoa(1/2 cup).
Avoid restrictive diets: Say no to fads that cut out entire food groups. Balance and satisfaction are key.
Hydrate: Aim for at least 8 cups of water daily, or about half your body weight in ounces. Often, thirst is mistaken for hunger, which can help with cravings.
Small Actions Lead to Big Results
The real secret to weight loss lies in sustainability. Instead of overhauling your life or going on an extreme fitness kick, focus on small, consistent actions that add up over time.
Here’s how you can get started:
Schedule it: Add your 20-minute workouts to your calendar like a non-negotiable meeting.
Track your progress: Use an app or journal to record your workouts, meals, and how you’re feeling. I personally use Trainerize and MyFitnessPal with coaching clients, which have turned out great for consistency and organization.
Shift your mindset: Remind yourself that progress is progress—even if it feels small. I include Mindset Mastery methods in my coaching because often times we don't even realize the subconscious narrative that drive our actions.
Celebrate wins: Did you hit your water goal? Get in 3 workouts this week? Celebrate those victories so you're more likely inclined to continue with your journey.
Real-life example: One of my clients, a busy mom of two, started with just two 20-minute workouts a week and prepping meals for 3 days at a time. Within 3 months, she had lost 15 pounds and felt stronger than ever. That’s the power of consistency and simplicity! DON'T overthink small daily actions.
Why Simplified Routines Work
As someone who’s been there, I know what it’s like to fall for the “more is better” trap. I spent hours on workouts I hated and tried every restrictive diet under the sun. Spoiler alert: none of it worked. Why? Because I was adding more resistance to my schedule, rather than figuring out the healthy habits that I actually enjoyed.
Once I embraced a simple, sustainable routine with short workouts, carb-smart meals, and mindset shifts, the results came—and they stayed. Now, I help busy women like you do the same.☺️
